Boost Powerball Winnings With the Power Play

Add a little excitement to your Powerball prizes by utilizing the Power Play option to boost all of your non-jackpot winnings by up to 10 times their original amount! Keep reading to see how it works and how you can add it to your ticket the next time you play Powerball online from Texas.

What Is the Powerball Power Play Feature?

Power Play is a lottery prize multiplier that can be added to your Powerball ticket for a small additional fee. Multipliers will increase your lottery prize winnings by a set amount depending on which number is selected in the draw.

While the Powerball Power Play feature does not apply to the jackpot prize, it will double the second-place Match 5 prize from $1 million to $2 million and multiply the rest of the draw’s non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times!

How Does Power Play Work in Powerball?

Right after the main numbers and the Powerball number are drawn, a single Power Play number from 1-5 is selected from a separate drum containing 42 balls. Each of the five numbers determines by how much the draw’s non-jackpot prizes will be multiplied and each number has a different amount of balls in the drum. If you match any of the draw’s non-jackpot prize divisions, with or without the additional Powerball number, your prize money will automatically be multiplied by the number picked from the Power Play drum.

For example, if you match draw’s 4th place prize without the Powerball booster, you would win $100. If you had added the Power Play feature to your ticket and the number “5” was selected; your prize would go from $100 → $500. If the number “10” was selected, you would be walking home with a $1,000 Powerball prize! The odds of winning a Powerball prize remain the same, but due to the differing amount of balls per number, the chances of each Power Play number being picked are different

If the annuity for the draw’s jackpot prize is under $150 million, another ball with the number “10x” will be added to the drum (increasing the number of balls to 43). See below how this affects the odds of each of the Power Play numbers being drawn:
