Alfredo Ornelas Barragan, $145 million Lotto Texas jackpot, June 19, 2004

Described as a "publicity-shy El Paso man", Alfredo Ornelas Barragan arrived at the offices of the Texas Lottery Commission to claim his $145m Lotto Texas jackpot prize. "He's very quiet but eager to have the prize claimed," a lottery official said. Ornelas Barragan formed the IBO Management company as the legal entity that accepted the $82,569,717 cash value option of the prize, which came to $61.9 million after taxes. "We are very happy and thankful for this gift that God has given us," Ornelas Barragan said. "We are very nervous, but with God's help we will be able to make good use of this prize."

William R Kiefer, $144 million Mega Millions jackpot, January 29, 2010

Katy resident William Kiefer said after his big lottery win: "The greatest gift my parents gave me was to be raised a Christian. I plan to give 60 percent of all [my] after-tax winnings to charity." Lottery officials said that had never seen such generosity before. Among the charitable causes Kiefer decided to support was the care of retired Catholic nurses. Church members described him as a “really good man with a big heart”. Kiefer, who elected to receive his prize in 29 annual payments, also donated some of his winnings to support abused children and to help in the Haitian relief effort.

TL Management Trust, $564.1 million Powerball jackpot, February 11, 2015

A huge $564 million Powerball jackpot, one of the biggest American lottery prizes ever awarded, was split between three winning tickets. The Texan share of the prize, worth $127,046,150 (cash value option), was claimed by the TL Management Trust. The winning Powerball ticket was bought at the Appletree Food Mart in Princeton. The winner requested minimal publicity, according to a news release from the Texas Lottery Commission.

Eliberto Cantu, $177 million Mega Millions jackpot, March 31, 2017

Texas resident Eliberto Cantu bought his ticket, and received his prize, in Arkansas.

Eliberto Cantu, a 71-year-old construction worker from Abernathy, had been working for five weeks in Arkansas when he convinced a co-worker to stop by a gas station on their way to work so he could buy a cup of coffee and what ended up being the winning Mega Millions lottery ticket. “He’s been playing since Texas started its lottery. I’m sure he’ll keep playing. You can’t break a 30-year-old habit," Cantu's son Rodrigo said. The prize, collected in Arkansas, was that state’s largest jackpot win ever.

Anonymous, $227 million Mega Millions jackpot, September 24, 2019

A resident of Leander, a suburb just north of Austin, is the winner of the largest prize ever paid out to a single Texas Lottery player. The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, elected to take the cash value of the prize, worth an amazing $157,091,592 before taxes. The winning ticket, a Quick Pick, was purchased at Lakeline Express Mart, located at 2004 N. Lakeline Blvd., in Cedar Park. The winning numbers in the draw were 6-14-24-42-46 and Mega Ball 9. The Leander winner became the 13th Mega Millions jackpot winner in Texas.
